1. Make a Part-time Income from eBay

I’m not going to explain too much in detail on how to use eBay or the technicalities involved in setting up an online store to sell products, but more about how to research and find products, or better still how to create a product of your own that you can sell on eBay.

You may check out articles on google about promoting and increasing visibility and sales on eBay.

I’m sure many of you know what eBay is and it is still one of the most influential platforms on the web for making money.

A lot of people complain about the selling fees and what have you, but let’s get straight to the point here, eBay is a very appealing platform because it’s huge.

eBay is getting a lot of targeted traffic which means you don’t need to spend time and money marketing your platform just to be able to sell your stuff, the hard work has been done for you.

So the selling fees are nothing compared to what you’d have to spend building and promoting your online store.

I have made as little as $300 a month and up to $2,000 a month on eBay, the amount of money you make depends significantly on how much time you’re willing to invest in building a real go with eBay, so let’s get started.

I’ve titled this post on how to make a part-time income from eBay, but realistically anyone can earn a full-time income from eBay.

1.1. Product Research and Creation

First of all, you need something to sell… One of the easiest ways to make money on eBay is by buying and reselling.

Yes as you probably guessed you need to make an initial investment.

There are plenty of places on the internet where you can buy items and sell them for profit on eBay, but you have to do your research carefully to find the best products that will sell well.

Research for the bestselling products on eBay and then try and work out where you can get products to sell.

Liquidation stock is an excellent place to start, just do a search on Google on where you can get hold of liquidation stock.

You can also buy items on eBay and sell them back on eBay for more money if you can spot a bargain of course.

The method that I use and would recommend is researching and creating your products.

This is much easier than trying to sell liquidation stock in my mind, but perhaps not as profitable.

Here are some suggested ideas for products you might want to consider creating to sell on eBay (Without violating eBay terms)

  • Books and Guides (Printed Version)
  • Information products on CD
  • The software’s on CD
  • Arts and Craft items
  • Stickers and custom banners/decals
  • Business cards / Custom stationary
  • Royalty-free Images on CD
  • Royalty-free music on CD
  • Printed t-shirts and clothing
  • WordPress themes and Plugins on CD

As you can see from the list, you have quite a choice of the items you can create and sell to profit on eBay. If you’re wondering why I’ve placed digital products on CD, it’s because eBay does not permit the selling of digital goods for electronic delivery. OK, let’s get started.

1.1.1. Income from eBay: Research and Create your Product

This is not the fun bit, but it needs to be done. First of all research and decide what you want to create to sell on eBay.

If you’re going to put together a DVD containing 5,000 royalty-free images that you’ve taken yourself, then do that.

If you think you can create custom stickers and decals, then so be it.

See what others are doing first; check out the completed listings to see how well these items sell before going into production.

1.1.2. Income from eBay: Get an eBay and PayPal account

Get yourself an eBay seller account and a PayPal account. If you don’t know what PayPal is then I’m shocked.

Nevertheless here goes. PayPal is the most trusted and largest online payment service provider on the web.

You can use it to accept payment for items not just sold on eBay, but your website or blog too. You can find out more about PayPal here.

1.1.3. Income from eBay: List your items for selling

If you’re selling craft, stationery, or artwork, ensure you create a sufficiently detailed listing of each item. Highlight the features and benefits and select your price.  Here are some points to remember –

  • Use quality images
  • Use an attractive, and descriptive title
  • Create a well-written description
  • Check for spelling, punctuation, and type Os.
  • List the product features and benefits
  • List the product in the correct category
  • Outline delivery costs and times clearly
  • State your return policy/money-back guarantee clearly
  • Embed a video of your product to help enhance your listing further
  • Host your images elsewhere to keep selling costs down

I would recommend starting with ensuring that the price of each item you sell is at the absolute minimum.

You want to start making money first before spending too much on selling fees.

Don’t overdo it either, if you’re just starting, list only a few items in your first month. If you have no success, you won’t be left with a monster bill at the end of the month.

And you can go back to the drawing board not being completely broke…

If you’re selling CDs and printed goods such as your guides and eBook, business cards, brochures, and stickers, you can list a single item with a quantity available, i.e., 10 available. This will save you money by not having to sell each item separately.

Once you start making a decent income from eBay, you can then begin to list a few more items and build your income up slowly.

Selling on eBay can be addictive, and it’s great fun too. But remember; don’t run before you can walk.

2. Make Money on YouTube

There are two common ways to make money online as a college student on YouTube, using AdSense and reviewing products as an Amazon affiliate or affiliate video marketing in general.

Before you can begin to make money on YouTube though you’ll need to have a channel and ideally some original videos… like you didn’t know that.

So, the first step if you don’t already have a YouTube account is to create one, and then create about a dozen quality and useful videos.

creating videos

Step 1: Building an Audience

To successfully make money on YouTube, you’ll need to be creating and uploading original videos regularly, and drive lots of traffic or views to those videos.

To get lots of hits’s on your YouTube videos you’ll need an audience; your audience can also be viewed as channel subscribers.

Step 2: Create Useful Videos

As we mentioned earlier, you need to create useful videos and consistently. I’ve found the best way to do this is to create videos that you’re interested in building, i.e., like in blogging you need to have a passion.

For example, if your love is surfing, then design and upload surfing-related videos.

One of the best ways to help you decide what kind of videos to create is to have a browse on YouTube yourself.

See what’s popular and what others are doing in your area of interest, are they getting tons of hits with their videos?

Are there areas where they’ve missed the boat completely and where you have an opportunity to share something new and fresh?

Do some research?

Remember to create video content that is 100% unique and yours. So no copyrighted music, images, or any other copyrighted material should be used in your videos. This is especially important if you want to apply to participate in the YouTube Partner program.

Once you have a few videos on your channel, you’ll soon be able to see what your viewers are interested in viewing by analyzing your channel stats. This will help you create more useful and needful video content.

Step 3: Create and Upload Videos Regularly

We also mentioned this earlier, just like having a blogging frequency, being consistent is essential, so ensure you create video content for your channel and your subscribers frequently.

Have an upload calendar, decide how many video reviews, video blogs, and how-to videos you want to create each week.

2.3.1. Monetizing using Google AdSense

We mentioned that there were two common ways to make money on YouTube, the first is with AdSense.

To make money with your YouTube channel using Google AdSense you’ll need to sign up to YouTube’s Partner program and have an AdSense account.

There are some minimum requirements and application approval isn’t exactly instant for neither, but once you’ve been accepted, you can start monetizing your videos with immediate effect.

2.3.2. Promoting Affiliate Products

One of my favorite ways to make money on YouTube is by promoting affiliate products and services.

If you’re an affiliate such as an Amazon Associate member YouTube is the perfect tool, because you can create a whole wad of video reviews, and how-to videos and add your affiliate link in the video description.

One of the best ways to succeed in making money with affiliate video marketing is by promoting niche products related to your area of interest.

For example, if you blog about technology and you have a YouTube channel, create videos promoting technology-related products, i.e., smartphones, tablet computers, computing, and peripherals.

So we mentioned creating quality videos is essential, being consistent is important, promoting the right products and services that interest you is necessary.

The other vital ingredient is being a regular YouTuber; which involves interacting with the community, your subscribers, leaving video responses on other related videos, joining groups, promoting via social media, etc.

To make money with YouTube takes time and a little hard work, like anything that involves making money online, but the rewards can be overwhelming, the best of luck to you.

3. Stock Photography

Stock photography is becoming increasingly popular as a way of making money online.

Using your high-end Smartphones and/or digital cameras you can easily make money online as a college student by taking photographs and selling online.

The following are some tips that can help you succeed in the competitive stock photography industry.

stock photography

3.1. Research stock agencies

Compare different stock agencies to establish which one would be best suited for your photos.

Once you identify companies that would be a good fit, contact the photo editors and find out what needs they have.

This information will enable you to prepare your first submission for their needs. Some agencies even offer such information on their sites.

3.2. Get a model release

If you submit a photo that has a person in it, your image needs to be accompanied by a model release.

Without one, most stock agencies will not take a picture that includes a person. Therefore, every time you are taking photographs, make sure you have a release with you.

3.3. Understand the value of stock

Make sure the images you submit have the stock value. Usually, agencies have an oversupply of photos in categories such as sunsets, flowers, and mountains.

If you choose to submit photos in these categories, you need to make sure that they stand out from the ones already in the agencies’ database.

Find out what is marketable when it comes to stock photography. Look at the photos used in magazine ads to get an idea of the kind of popular images.

Most stock agencies need a wide range of models expressing concepts such as freedom, global communication, romance, stress, poverty, victory, loneliness, fear, humor, joy, aggression, and success.

Therefore, before submitting a photo, make sure it expresses a concept that would be of interest to photo buyers or agencies.

3.4. Use keywords to index your photos

If your photos are not indexed with keywords, then they are unlikely to get proper exposure online.

You need to realize that you are competing against thousands of other images added weekly to various sites.

Therefore, it is essential to take time to select the best keywords. Quality photos that are accompanied by significant keywords will get maximum exposure as well as downloads.

3.5. Pay heed to technical requirements

Many times, images are rejected due to technical factors. Before submitting photos, you need to prepare them to ensure that there is no pixel distortion, underexposure, overexposure, or excessive image noise.

A basic understanding of photo-editing software is therefore essential.

3.6. Be patient

When it comes to stock photography, there is no way of predicting when your photos will be bought, if at all. However, as you continue submitting quality photos to agencies, you will increase your chances of making money.

Conclusion

If making money online were so easy, why would startups exist? Why would anyone go for a business of their own?

If everyone who buys a laptop and rigs up an Internet connection can make money in 90 days flat (as some programs or schemes promise), why bother with anything else?

Online Part-time jobs have been increasingly most searching topics on the internet as this is the best option to make money online as a college student.

With their hard-earned money, they can manage their own college expenses by themselves.

Time is precious. Your efforts need better recognition. Don’t lose your soul and your “self” to mindless schemes and half-baked prospects. You deserve more.

Take one step at a time, and you’ll soon be making easy addition second or even full-time income from any of the above money-making methods, good luck.
